Inspiring Teachers

Our new cohort of PGCE students begin at UCB today, so it seems appropriate to mention a new report from the CfBT Education Trust. The publication is entitled Inspiring Teachers: Perspectives and Practices, and uses 17 case studies of well regarded teachers to try and establish what constitutes 'inspiring' teaching. The research is also underpinned by examining relevant academic literature. To view the full report, click here.

Similar recent research from the same source include the simply-named Teachers, a 2013 report addressing the characteristics of effective teachers, and Effective Teaching: a Review of Research and Evidence. Another very useful resource is the Education Endowment Foundation's Teaching and Learning Toolkit, which takes a detailed look at a range of different teaching approaches, evaluating them by their effectiveness, the strength of evidence behind them, and their cost.

Don't forget that you can view all previous posts relating to teaching on this site by clicking on the 'Teaching' link in the Hot Topics menu on the right of the page. My teaching bookmarks on the Diigo site are also freely available.
